So quite a few things have happened since my last blog. I've had coffees and lunches with some lovely people (you see theres a trend here, but who wants to luncheon with not lovely people??). The lovely people; Beth, my very first ITU friend, who I haven't seen for alot of years (but is just as beautiful as always). Lou, my friend who I did my nurse training with, with whom we have been promising coffees for years, but life got in the way! My beautiful ACCP ladies, with whom I never feel like, the time we have is enough!! My mam and aunty Karen (for pizza wine and lots of shopping!) she's not actually my aunty, I have none, but she is the person who deserves the title more than anyone. I even managed a night out with the critical care gang (where the music was very loud - does this mean I'm getting old? or deaf? maybe both!), a posh meal out with my Janey (where we could have passed for a lesbian couple - won't be the first time!).
And finally a night in with my most beautiful friends, who I affectionately call 'my council estate friends!' I'm super proud of growing up in Brambles Farm (estate) (for any non-Teesside residents - its not as picturesque as it sounds, think Shameless rather than Darling buds of May!!). My best memories growing up are of these people and from these estates. Michelle; literally the loudest person in existence (known at school as - face like an angel mouth like a foghorn)! Debbie; would literally decorate you if you stood still long enough, but would also feed you to death too! Victoria; who has an obsession with Billy Idol so bad, that I reckon his rabbit is in danger! Vicki; has fallen asleep in every boozer I've ever seen her in, unless of course she's outside of the Teesside area, she's bright as a button then!! Adele; couple of false hips and never heard a peep, tries to body pop on a 90s weekender and she's still banging on about it! Chezza; everyones mam til she's had a skinful then she's no-ones mam and everyones teenager! Joanne (big balls); still knows where to buy frosty jacks (cider for all you millennials, couldn't afford AU vodka in our day!!). All in all some bloody good times!
So, back to the subject matter. I had my bloods taken on Friday and had an appointment with my Oncologist. She was happy with the owld kidneys and how I had tolerated the first cycle, all good, until I got home and got a call to say my liver function was 'off'. This sent me into a 2 hour pit of despair, aw man! I just wanted it to all be good, why wouldn't it? anyway I snapped out of it and spent the next days loving my liver like never before, with a time tested method, lemons, lemons and lactulose, followed by more lemons and more lemons! so many lemons in fact I was subconsciously singing the "Mild green fairy liquid" song in my head!! (Don't google it, it never leaves you!).
Monday morning came and bloods repeated, turns out the method worked and I got my second cycle of chemo as planned, phew! Never thought I'd be begging to be injected with cytotoxic drugs but there I was, I almost did a little happy dance then realised where I was (yeah! think tumble weed!!). Bumped into Brian again, said 'hello', he smiled, but for some reason he went and sat all the way over the other side of the room, funny I thought we had bonded, clearly he didn't (haha!). Having chemo meant I also got to sample the soup, it did not disappoint! It was mushroom today and it was lush, I almost forgot it came from an NHS kitchen! Its funny chemo, (well not haha funny, but you know), it makes you feel nauseous but the steroids make you ravenous. So your'e wanting to eat a full english breakfast one minute, then wanting to get off the rocking boat the next! I think the steroids win though, I can plough through the sickness not too bad, but I just can't say no to a Colin the Caterpillar cake!!
