So since my last post I feel like I've been so busy. Not least because I had an action packed weekend in Skegness with my gorgeous friends for my 40th birthday (I know I'm dragging it out!). We went for an adult only 90s weekender and let me tell you this; you haven't lived until you've done one! And nowhere else will you see Jesus, Darth Vaider and the Spice girls all under the same roof!! It was a weekend full of laughter and to say I love these girls is an understatement. Never mind the chemo I'll just have another dose of that please!
Got home and I'll be honest, I needed a holiday to get over the holiday! We got the news that my trial would be starting on 22nd September, that meant travelling down on the 20th for a 2 day stopover. So before that We decided to make the bank holiday weekend an action packed one. Starting with Neil and Catherine's wedding reception on Friday night at Acklam Hall. Well if there was ever a room filled with beautiful souls that was it! It was like an ITU reunion and the bride looked phenomenal as we knew she would. We then went to Raithwaite Sandsend on Saturday night for dinner bed and breakfast and a bit of R&R, we ate our body weight in shellfish and it was just perfect! We then decided to go out on the Sunday (bank holiday) to celebrate the life of Queen Elizabeth II, because I'm sure what she really wanted us to do was to go sing a bit Karaoke and end up in The Pig Iron! (For those of you who don't know, it's the Boro's place to be!). Monday was spent watching the funeral and paying our respects to a woman who has been insurmountable in her reign for our country and the commonwealth. God save the Queen 🇬🇧.
So, after all that we travelled to Leicester yesterday to get started on the (MiST 5) trial, today is clinic day, so, getting the full brief and getting all of my baseline observations documented. Tomorrow will be treatment day. I'll be honest there's not much going on in Leicester, I'm not sure what I'm going to do to occupy myself while I'm down here! Even one of the locals said to me this morning 'shame you can't go anywhere else!' So I'll probably find a good Costa that's good for people watching and take this time to read, write and colour in (yeah I know I'm 40 but I love a doodle! Staying inside the lines only made possible by spectacles and good lighting!).
I'm nervous about the treatment for so many reasons; will it work, how will it make me feel, what if it makes me really poorly, how will I have to alter my life to continue treatment, will I manage the gym, will I be able to travel. I suppose all questions that will only be answered by taking the leap. To do this I've got my big girl pants well and truly on, and to quote our late Queen 'When life seems hard, the courageous do not lie down and accept defeat; instead, they are all the more determined to struggle for a better future'. I hear ya Lizzy and I'm on it.
Mist 5 does take some getting used to, but the treatment will soon become part of the routine, Molly and the girls will look after you.. My husband Dale, has now been on it for 12 months !!! and doing really well 🤞🤞🤞 also feeling really well which is great, so we’re doing as much as we can.
