Out of the MiST into the fog

Updated: Feb 28, 2023

So since my last blog I have been dining, socialising and even globe trotting a bit!

Me and Mark had a night out in Leeds and went to Man Behind The Curtain, a Michelin Star Restaurant that is well worth a visit, we met up with his longtime friend Mark who is a copper in Leeds, was so nice to see him, he probs didn't agree once I got him on the double brandys!

Me and Mark went to Dominican Republic in January and it was lovely. One thing I had totally forgot though that immunotherapy makes you very sensitive to the sun, so I had an episode of prickly heat that took me back to my first holiday to Salou with my friend Natalie on the bus. I was 15, pale and thought applying baby oil would take me from casper the friendly ghost to Jennifer Lopez! Turns out that's not the case!!

Livvy (The eldest) passed her driving test and so we now have a live in taxi driver, although we've yet to be taxied anywhere! It's in the post! Me and some of the girls went out for Janey's birthday. We had a lovely night in Yarm, we even squeezed in a bit of champers! Jane is my beautiful friend who I met 19 years ago and I wouldn't be without her, definitely a sister from another mister!

I've had 2 CT scans since my last blog. One in Dec/Jan which was stable then one in February that unfortunately has shown growth. This means I have had to stop my current treatment and come out of the MiST trial. This means we now have to look at other options. I have spoken to Prof. Fennell over the phone and he is keen to repeat a biopsy of the cancer (they do this with CT guidance as a day case). He wants to compare this biopsy to the initial biopsy to see how the cancer has evolved. He also wants to send the sample for genomics testing to see if there is a targeted therapy that would be appropriate, then we can look at treatment options.

So we did what we usually do, we had a day of feeling sad about it and we cracked on. No point dwelling on it so I got on with living life. I had always said I would take the girls to New York when they turn 18 and 21 within weeks of each other. This whole situation has made me realise that waiting to do something is pointless (YOLO). So on 10th February I took them to the big apple. to say I was shattered and poor at the end of it would be an understatement but we have made memories for them that will last a lifetime. That's what's important. So we just wait now for appointments and treatment options. Whatever happens I'm just living life in the meantime, feel free to join me anytime :-)
